Since 2009, the Manitoba First Nations Technology Council has worked on constructing the Manitoba First Nation Network of the Future Initiative to bring high-speed internet to all Manitoba First Nation communities.
Our work here at Clear Sky Connections has drastically evolved to create a for-profit arm, in partnership with various stakeholders. These partnerships are beneficial and enable Manitoba’s First Nations to fully realize the grand dream of owning and operating a high-speed fiber optic network.
In 2015, the federal government announced a $300 million fund for broadband connectivity. The program Connect to Innovate opened the Call for Proposals in December 2016, and closed April 2017 — Clear Sky Connections applied for part of the funding. This funding will now support the completion of a fiber optic network, which is over 3500km for Manitoba First Nations and the surrounding communities. With various strategic partnerships planned currently, greater value will be achieved for ensuring affordable, accessible, and adequate connectivity.
We are on a mission to demonstrate remarkable leadership skills, empower our Indigenous people and build positive relationships to further the vision of building a stable network in our communities a reality.
In unity with Manitoba First Nations, we are proud to partner with Canada, Manitoba, Nanaandawewigamig - First Nations Health and Social Secretariat of Manitoba (FNHSSM) and other Strategic Partners to make the vision of building a network in our communities a reality.
To be announced.
